The traditional tattoo (old school) rests on a few principles: a bold black outline, a limited palette and simple, readable images. Sailing ships, animals, flowers and symbols look expressive at once in this style and stay crisp for many years.
It is a style with a long history and its own set of subjects, but there is freedom within it: you can take a classic motif or build it around your idea. The size and the placement are chosen so that the outline and the colour work with the shape of the body.
